What happens when a free agent is added to a team?
When a player is dropped by a team, can another team pick him up effective the same day that his release is effective, or does the player go into "limbo" for one transaction cycle before he can be picked up? Example: Suppose transactions in your league are effective on Mondays. If you cut a player on Sunday afternoon (effective Monday), can another team add that player Sunday night, effective Monday, or is that player not available to be picked up until Tuesday, effective the following Monday?
How do you deal with free agents who are in the minor leagues or on the DL?
One league (1) has asked that DL players be shown on the Free Agent lists, even though they are not eligible to be picked up. Is this you? (hint: almost certainly not.)
Is there a limit to the number of free agents a team may add during any one transaction cycle?
A very, very, small number of leagues -- as in eight (8) -- and almost certainly not your league, players just called up from the minors or recently traded in from the opposite league go immediately to a special pool of free agents, distinct from other free agents and from the waiver wire. Players in this pool (and ONLY players in this pool) are added to teams via FAAB. Do you use this rule? Almost everyone really needs to answer "no" to this.
Do you use a "Free Agent Acquisition Budget" (FAAB) bidding system for adding free agents?
One (1) league has a special rule whereby they suspend the use of FAAB and switch to free agents awarded by standings order in September. Do you want to do this?
How do you determine the salary of a player added as a free agent? Note: please do NOT select the 4th option, "His FAAB bid usually, but the default value set..." unless you have a regular period each week in which owners are allowed to add free agents at will, in addition to a FAAB proceedure. Note Also: if you use the "Vickrey" system in your FAAB bids, select the first option here -- you'll set up the Vickrey details later.
What is the budget for your free agent bidding system
What is the minimum bid for a free agent?
Can bids be fractions of a dollar -- $2.50, for example?
Can teams with a $0 FAAB balance continue to place bids on players -- in the amount of $0?
In a trivially small number of leagues, players keep the same contract and salary for the entire season, no matter how many times they get released back into the free agent pool and picked up by another team. This is not like waivers, which is how most league enforce salary retention. It's for players who are cut, sit in the FA pool for a month, and then get picked up by someone else. As far as we know, only 3 or 4 leagues need this rule. Do you use this rule (almost everyone should say "No")?
Do you want the ability to force specific players onto (or keep them off of) your free agent list, regardless of their actual eligibility status? (You do this on their player profile page).
